WHERE IT BEGAN
They met in Wellington, through a mutual friend, on a night out in the middle of winter. One of those nights you have when you’re 18 and in your first year of uni, no real plan, just a packed bar on Cuba Street, loud music, and a few too many drinks.
Becky had actually been on her way home when she was called back to join a group heading into town. Among them was Harry, immediately recognisable as “the twin” she’d been told to look out for.
They danced, they laughed, and somewhere in between it all, something clicked. Becky remembers thinking, oh… this is what it’s supposed to feel like when you meet your person.
From that night on, they kept finding their way back to each other. What started as a chance meeting turned into something constant. The kind of connection that felt easy from the very beginning. No big defining moment, just a growing certainty that this was something worth holding onto.
In 2016, sitting at the top of Mount Victoria with sushi and a view over Wellington, Harry asked Becky to be his girlfriend.
What followed were years of long distance, stretched across what felt like endless summers. Through it all, they grew up side by side, building something that always felt certain. There was never really a question of where it was heading.
Now, ten years on from that night on Cuba Street, they’re engaged and planning their wedding, still choosing each other in all the same ways, just with a few more years, stories, and adventures behind them.

Years later, they found themselves on a long weekend in Albania, a trip that quietly marked the beginning of summer. It was late May. The air was warm, the sky clear, and the beaches almost completely empty, their favourite kind of escape. No plans, just slow mornings with coffee, beach hopping, and the occasional stop for photos and a drink.
On their second morning of the trip, Harry mentioned a small chapel he’d spotted on the hill behind their hotel. He thought it might be worth the climb for the view, and casually asked Becky if she’d like to go up before dinner. Thankfully, she said yes.
The walk was short but steep, dusty and quiet, with not many words exchanged along the way. Becky couldn’t help but wonder… could this be it?
At the top, they were met with a panoramic view over the coastline, the sun beginning to set and casting everything in a soft, golden light.
There was no one else around. Just the two of them, standing in the warmth of the evening, a gentle breeze in the air.
Then, a simple question, asked with complete certainty. Becky, with tears already in her eyes, didn’t hesitate. Yes. It was always yes.
What followed was pure joy, laughter, hugs and kisses under the setting sun. A perfect, fleeting moment that would stay with them forever.
OUR ENGAGEMENT STORY
Our love was always a little sweeter on the weekends.
